Highlights from our third date

So on Wednesday, my Dad's birthday, I took him out to dinner. Jared joined us along with obviously my Mom, and not as obviously my Aunt Ginny. After dinner, Jared was going to take me to this surprise place for our third date, but it was closed! But I had guessed right, I guessed he was going to take me indoor rock climbing. So instead, we ended up at Fashion Fair. We walked from one end of the mall to the other and back halfway or so, and then cut out to the shops that were added to the parking lot. We ended up in one shop, I can't remember what it was, but it was one of those hip-trendy shops like American Eagle Outfitters or something along those lines. They had a bunch of hats in there, and he and I just kept trying on hats. He said I looked cute in this one, but I have a firm theory that I look stupid in all hats in existence.

He's crazy, right?

So after that we went back to Mom and Dad's house and cuddled on my bed watching Step Brothers, which I'd never seen. I actually laughed quite a bit more than I had expected to, because Will Ferrell movies are either really great, or really...really bad. I don't know that I'd say it's to the caliber of Stranger Than Fiction, but it was pretty good.
We ended up spending the whole night chit chatting and fell asleep.
But not before he could ask me if I'd like to join him in going to Germany in October!
I told him that I'd have to see if I could afford it and get the time off at work (at the group home anyway, getting time off at the school is usually pretty easy as long as no one else requests time off as well). I have about $600 saved already that was going toward getting a new car, but I guess we'll see when it gets closer if I'd be able to afford it and if it would really be a smart decision.

On Sunday afternoon however, I'll be making my (usually) annual trip down to Phoenix. Sadly though, it's only for about 4 days this time, usually it's a week and a half to two weeks (but like I said, sometimes it's hard to get time off!). I won't be taking my laptop with me on this trip down (normally I would), but I'd rather have a more simple vacation, without the need for the internet.
I will be taking my camera though, so there will be plenty of pictures, I'm sure. :)

No relation

When I told Mom that Jared was a quarter Portuguese, she said "You'd better make sure you're not related!" with a laugh. However, this started to make me worried. Knowing my luck, the one guy that has caught my attention and kept it in the past 4 years WOULD be related. So I called Grandma. The first time I talked to her about it, I only knew the rest of his heritage, Armenian, Russian, and French. Grandma said she didn't know of anyone in our blood line with that mixture, so I had my mind put more at ease.

On our second date, I found out his mother's maiden name, Fontes. So when Grandma called today, I had at least that much information to give her. She said we aren't related to any Fontes', but said that she knew someone named Joe Fontes. So Grandma goes on to describe Joe a little bit, like how he's been married twice, and his first wife's name was Rosemary, and that he lives in Easton.

So I called Jared.

Me: "Do you have an Uncle Joe?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "Does he live in Easton?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "Was he married to Rosemary?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "Okay, my Grandma used to be good friends with him."
Him: "Okay, but we're not related, right?"
Me: "Oh no no!"
Him: "Oh good! Good friends I can deal with, but related!?"
Me "Yeah, no relation!"

So we're both extremely relieved to know that we are FOR SURE not related.

Phew!

Mime Time

Sorry for the lack in entries again, I've been pretty busy between work, roller derby, going to the gym, and dating (well, two dates, same guy, in the last week, third set for Wednesday). The little bit of free time I have lately I spend it running errands (I still need to get my oil changed, about 400 miles over) or playing video games with Austin and Madison.

So first let me post this picture of me at the bout:

I ended up being in control of the time, so I was the Time Mime. :)

In weight loss news, I've officially lost 30 pounds since October last year! I'm down to 242 as of this moment. I've decided once I hit my 1/3rd mark to my goal (another 8 pounds), that I'm going to go on a small road trip. Maybe hop over to the coast for the day, or skedaddle down to Magic Mountain if I can find someone to go with. Maybe even just go up to Sacramento to visit my friend Stacey from college for the day. Who knows? We'll see when I get to that point. I don't know though, if I stay at the pace I managed for last week (I dropped 4 1/2 pounds), I might be making this trip in 2 weeks.

As for the dating world... I was getting ready to throw in the towel again and just give up, when I was contacted by a guy on OkCupid, Jared. At first he was just asking me for profile advice, which I gave. Then he asked me how I was and what I was up to. Work, gym, and roller derby, I told him, said I didn't get up to much else. He suggested I join him for some things he'd been wanting to do, and he asked me to join him for Jamba Juice the next day. So our first date was on Thursday last week (Jamba Juice and air hockey (plus a lot of talking)), and our second on Sunday (A small get together with some of his family and his roommate and a movie (The Hangover, and it was hilarious!). We also had two small smooches at the end of this date (and I like that, because it was enough to say "yes, duh, I'm interested" but enough also to say "I like the pace this is going," which is relatively slow)). Our third date is set for Wednesday. I'm not sure what we're going to be getting up to. He's leaving it as a secret, but he said as a hint that it was near Fresno State and then he asked me if I was afraid of heights. I think he's taking me indoor rock climbing!

Color Me Mime.

I knew my time of the month would be my downfall in calculating what I'm eating every day. In the last 24 hours I've consumed about 600 calories over what I would normally consume in a day. Granted, it's not awful, but it is the equivalent of about how many calories I burn in a kickboxing class!
I was planning on going to kickboxing this morning, but I've been awake since 1:40 PM yesterday afternoon. On top of that, I've got a healing blister from a cheap-o pair of Wal-Mart sandals which happened to find themselves in the trash can. Yes, I know they're only $2.50, but I'm telling you, the sandals are NOT worth the blisters! I ended up having to soak my foot and lance the blister, and I've been keeping it wrapped to keep infection at bay. However, I think it has festered at some point during this work shift (I'm off in about an hour and a half), because walking up and down the hall during bed checks actually hurts my foot a bit.

This weekend though, if you're not doing anything and find yourself in the central valley, please go to the Fresno Fairgrounds on Saturday night at 7! NoTown Roller Derby is having another bout, and I'm going to be one of the score keepers!

It is all circus/carnival themed, and I will be dressed as a mime!
At least come and see me to point your finger and laugh at me! :p

Down another 2.5 lbs

So on Tuesday night I went to see Transformers with Michael. I had a good time cracking jokes with him through the previews, but there was no real chemistry. On top of that I haven't heard from him since I left him at the theater that night.

So I'm back to sort of not really caring about dating and trying to focus more on my health at the time being. I bought myself a columnar pad and I'm keeping strict details of everything I eat, down to how much every thing I eat has regarding fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, carbohydrates, fiber, sodium, and potassium. I weighed myself this week on Wednesday morning and I weighed 247.5, and yesterday morning I weighed myself and I weighed 245. I started keeping my detailed food log on Wednesday, and I've been to the gym twice since the new month started. I feel pretty confident that if I keep up with this and am very strict with it, I can lose up to 3 pounds a week. But we'll see, really.
